A video (here, here, and here) has recently gone viral on social media, which allegedly features a mentally unstable man repeatedly chanting BJP’s election slogan ‘Is baar 400 paar.’ In the video, a man is seen taking him to a doctor, who then administers a medicine to control his erratic behaviour. We will fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: The video shows a mentally unstable person repeatedly chanting, ‘Is baar 400 paar’, the BJP’s 2024 Lok Sabha election slogan.
Fact: This is a scripted video, not an actual incident. The person featured in this video is Dr. Rajinder Thappa, a retired CMO and actor from Jammu and Kashmir. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To learn more about the viral video, we searched the internet with relevant keywords, leading us to an Interview (archive link) featuring the man from the viral video. This video was uploaded to Facebook by a Jammu-based news outlet, “Enquirer Today.’
After watching this interview, we learned his name is Rajinder Thappa, and the viral video was scripted. Thappa said he shot this scene while making a film named ‘Udta Jammu.’ In the video, he further explained that after it went viral, people requested him to make a sequel.
Further, we performed another search and found both these videos (here and here (archive links can be found here and here)) of Rajinder Thappa on his Facebook profile. The second part of the viral video was posted with a disclaimer that reads, ‘This video is made for entertainment purpose only…’
Thappa had also clarified about this viral video to Boom Live, with whom he said “This scripted video was made around 2 weeks ago. We were shooting for a film and meanwhile I returned from a BJP event. I suddenly got this idea and made this entertaining video with my friends which suddenly went viral.“
Thappa also spoke to Jammu Kashmir-based media outlet ‘JK Line News’ about his two videos. In this interview, he detailed the idea behind making the viral video.
To sum up, a scripted video of a man repeatedly chanting ‘Is baar 400 paar’ is being falsely shared as visuals of a real incident.
