A satirical post is being shared as a real statement by Donald Trump, criticising PM Modi for not responding to his tariff concerns

United States President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on Indian imports starting from 01 August 2025, along with an unspecified ‘penalty’ over India’s continued purchases of Russian military equipment and oil. While referring to India as a ‘friend’, he criticised the country’s high trade barriers and close ties with Russia, calling both India and Russia ‘dead economies’. These remarks triggered widespread political reactions in India, with opposition parties and commentators calling out the tone and content of Trump’s statement.

Meanwhile, a screenshot of a post attributed to Trump is being widely shared on social media (here, here, and here). The post reads, “So hard to believe that Prime Minister Modi STILL hasn’t responded to my tweets, statements, or tariff concerns. We gave India so much — great deals, defence support, big crowds, and yet, TOTAL SILENCE. Not even a thank you! Don’t forget I’m the one who got India and Pakistan to declare a ceasefire. Nobody else could do that. MANY people said I should’ve gotten the Nobel Prize for it!! India continues to benefit while American workers suffer. I’ve always liked Modi, but this kind of disrespect will NOT be forgotten. Bad for business. Bad for friendship. #AmericaFirst.” The screenshot is being shared as if it is an official statement made by Trump. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: US President Donald Trump, in a social media post, criticised Prime Minister Modi for not responding to his tariff concerns.

Fact: The viral screenshot attributed to Donald Trump of criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi originated from the parody account ‘Wokeflix’, which regularly posts satirical content, and is not an official statement from Trump. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

To verify the claim, we examined the official handles of US President Donald Trump on Truth Social and X (formerly Twitter), where he typically shares his statements and opinions. However, we did not find any such post on either platform. We also reviewed archived versions of his X account and found no evidence that the post had been deleted. Moreover, no credible media outlet has reported that Trump criticised Prime Minister Modi for not thanking him or remaining silent after his tariff announcement. If such a statement had been made, it would likely have received wide national and international coverage, but no such reports were found.

We noticed a watermark of ‘Wokeflix’ on the viral screenshot and conducted a Google keyword search to trace the source. We found that Wokeflix describes itself as a ‘comedy writer’.

Upon reviewing the ‘Wokeflix’ handle, we found that the same screenshot (archived) was shared by the X account Wokeflix on 01 August 2025, bearing the same watermark and accompanied by a satirical caption: “Disgruntled lover.” We found another post on the same account in which Wokeflix criticised journalist Saba Naqvi for sharing the screenshot, calling her irresponsible for posting false or misleading content without proper verification.

We also found several other similar screenshots of ‘Trump’s posts’ shared by the same account, all carrying the same watermark and style of text (here and here).

To sum up, the viral post is a satirical creation, and the screengrab attributed to Donald Trump mentioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fabricated.
