A video (here, here) showing a crowd of people escorting a man in a police uniform, while a few individuals are also seen beating him, is going viral on social media, with the claim that the policeman had made derogatory remarks against Dr B.R. Ambedkar, allegedly prompting the mob’s reaction. In this article, let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: A video showing people apprehending and beating a policeman in uniform for making derogatory remarks against Dr B.R. Ambedkar.
Fact: This viral video is related to an incident that occurred in May 2025, in which two fake policemen wearing police uniforms were caught by villagers in Nagla Khanji village, under the jurisdiction of Dadon Police Station in Aligarh. This incident has no connection to Dr B.R. Ambedkar, as claimed in the viral post. Speaking to Factly, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Dadon Police Station, Aligarh, also confirmed the same. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
To verify the details of the viral video, we conducted a Google reverse image search using keyframes from the video. This search led us to a news report published by ‘Dainik Bhaskar’ in May 2025, which featured part of the viral footage. According to the report, two fake policemen were apprehended by villagers in Nagla Khanji village, under the jurisdiction of Dadon Police Station in Aligarh, on 16 May 2025. The two individuals were identified as Pramod and Arun, residents of Akrabad, Aligarh. They had allegedly threatened a local resident named Jailal and his family, claiming they would falsely implicate them in a case and have them jailed. They had also extorted ₹20,000 from the victim’s family. On 16 May 2025, when both men returned to Jailal’s house, the villagers found their behaviour suspicious and questioned them. When confronted, the two tried to flee, but the villagers caught them and informed the police. Upon arrival, the police discovered that the two were not genuine policemen, they were merely wearing police uniforms. Both were subsequently arrested. Regarding this incident, Aligarh Police also issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on 17 May 2025. In the statement, the Circle Officer of Chharra stated that two individuals, Pramod and Arun, were arrested on the evening of 16 May 2025 for impersonating policemen and harassing people under the jurisdiction of Dadon Police Station in Aligarh.
We then visited the Uttar Pradesh Police website and accessed the FIR (No. 127/2025) filed at Dadon Police Station in connection with this incident. Neither the FIR nor the statement issued by Aligarh Police on X (formerly Twitter) mentioned that the two individuals posing as policemen by wearing police uniforms had made any derogatory remarks against Dr B.R. Ambedkar.
Furthermore, we contacted the Station House Officer (SHO) of Dadon Police Station. Speaking to Factly, he denied the viral claim and clarified that the case has no connection to Dr Ambedkar, as alleged in the viral post. He confirmed that the video pertains to the incident in which two fake policemen were apprehended in Nagla Khanji village, under the jurisdiction of Dadon Police Station in Aligarh, in May 2025.
