A dubbed voice-over video is falsely being shared as real visuals of a Sanskrit inflight announcement in Akasa Air

A video is being widely shared on social media (here, here, here, here) claiming that it shows the first ‘flight announcement in Sanskrit’ in Varanasi airport on a flight belonging to ‘Akasa Air.’. However, as explained below, it actually shows a dubbed video made by a social media video creator named ‘Sanskrit Sparrow’ who posts content in Sanskrit. ‘Akasa Air’ also clarified that the announcement in the video was not an official one.

A video (here and here) allegedly showing the first ‘flight announcement in Sanskrit’ has been doing the rounds on social media lately. The text on the video claims that this was filmed on a flight belonging to ‘Akasa Air.’ We fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: The video shows the inflight announcement in Sanskrit in a ‘Akasa Air’ flight.
Fact: This is a dubbed video made by a social media video creator named ‘Sanskrit Sparrow’ who posts content in Sanskrit. ‘Akasa Air’ also clarified that the announcement in the video was not an official one. They said that their inflight announcements are delivered in Hindi and English. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
After initially observing a watermark of an Instagram account named ‘Sanskrit Sparrow’ on the viral video, we searched for this page online and found that one Samasthi Gubbi runs it. Here, she uploads content in Sanskrit.
She uploaded (archive link) the Sanskrit flight announcement video on 6 June 2024.
In the post’s video description, she mentioned that the video contained a ‘dubbed voice-over’ and that it was not a real announcement made on any flight. She even clarified that the video had nothing to do with ‘Akasa Air’.
Through further search regarding this claim, we found that ‘Akasa Air’ had also clarified about this video (archive link). Commenting under a social media post about the viral video, they said, ‘The announcement in the video is not an official one and seems to be a dubbed video that has been shared.’ They also noted that their inflight announcements are made in Hindi and English.
