A video going viral on social media (here, here, here, and here) allegedly shows BJP national president and Union Health Minister J.P Nadda placing a copy of the Constitution of India near his feet while speaking in the Rajya Sabha. Let’s verify the truth behind the video in this article.
Claim: Video shows J.P Nadda placing the Constitution of India near his feet in the Rajya Sabha.
Fact: The viral video is a clipped version of the actual incident. During the discussion on 11 February 2025 about the alleged removal of Nandalal Bose’s illustrations from the Constitution, Nadda was seen struggling to place the large-sized Constitution on his table, causing it to slip from his hands. He then picks it up from there and shows it again. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.
We conducted a Google keyword search and found the live stream of the Rajya Sabha proceedings from 11 February 2025 on ANI’s official YouTube channel. We reviewed the entire session, and at 20:33-minute timestamp, J.P Nadda is seen placing the Indian Constitution under the table. As Nadda struggled to hold the large-sized Constitution and placed it on the table for stability, the camera shifted to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, causing a break in the live stream. What happened next was not visible.
During Zero Hour, BJP’s Radha Mohan Das Agrawal raised concerns about the alleged removal of Nandalal Bose’s illustrations from the circulated copies of the Indian Constitution. These illustrations depicted key historical symbols and figures like Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, and Buddha. JP Nadda accused the Congress party of omitting them to hide the country’s “glorious past.” In response, Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge denied the claim, stating he had never seen such illustrations and accusing Agrawal of creating a controversy to undermine Dr BR Ambedkar, the Constitution’s architect.
We then came across an X post (archived) from 11 February 2025 by BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi, which shared footage of the same moment showing Nadda holding the Indian Constitution. In the video, Nadda is seen placing the Constitution on the table and picking it up from there, not from the ground after it slips from his hands.
In the original footage shared by Trivedi, Nadda is seen initially struggling with the book before placing it on the table. He quickly picks it up after it slipped from his hands, places it back on the table, and then picks it up again while delivering his speech. The sequence can be seen in the visual comparison below.
Nadda resumes his speech at the 23:51 timestamp in the live stream, where he is seen bending towards his seat to pick up a copy of the Indian Constitution.
To sum up, a clipped video of JP Nadda in Parliament is being falsely shared, claiming that he placed the Constitution of India near his feet in the Rajya Sabha.
