A 2024 video of Rahul Gandhi meeting Wayanad landslide victims is being falsely shared as him meeting New Delhi Railway Station stampede victims
On the night of 15 February 2025, a stampede occurred on platforms 14 and 15 at the New Delhi Railway Station, resulting in at least 18 fatalities and several hospitalisations (here, here, and here). In this context, a video of Congress leader and leader of the opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, is being shared on social media (here, and here), claiming that they met the victims of the New Delhi Railway Station stampede after the tragic incident. Through this article, let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Video shows Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra meeting the victims of the New Delhi Railway Station stampede in 2025.
Fact: The viral video is not related to the recent New Delhi Railway Station stampede that occurred on 15 February 2025. This video dates back to August 2024 and shows Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visiting a relief camp and meeting survivors of the Wayanad landslide that occured in August 2024. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
To verify the details of this viral video, we conducted a Google Reverse Image Search using keyframes from the video. This search led us to multiple videos shared on Instagram (here, here) and YouTube (here, here) in August 2024, where users mentioned that the video shows Rahul and Priyanka meeting the victims of Landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad.
During this search, we also found that the same video was shared on the official YouTube channel of the Indian Youth Congress on 02 August 2024. Additionally, the same video was shared (archived) on X (formerly Twitter) by Ruchira Chaturvedi, National Secretary of the All India Congress Committee’s Communication, Publicity, and Media wing, on 2 August 2024. This post also mentioned that the video is related to Wayanad.
Taking a cue from this, we then conducted a relevant keyword search, which led us to multiple news reports (here, here, and here) showing Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visiting relief camps and meeting survivors of the Wayanad landslide that took place in August 2024.
