A 2024 video from Bhopal is falsely shared as a child casting a vote during the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections

Amid this, a video is being shared on social media (here, here, and here) that claims to show a child casting a vote for the BJP during the recently concluded 2025 Bihar elections. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

Claim: The video shows a child casting a vote for the BJP during the recently concluded 2025 Bihar elections.

Fact: The video is not from the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections, and there are no credible reports of any minor casting a vote for the BJP during the polls. The incident is actually from May 2024, reported from Bhopal district, where Zila Panchayat member Vinay Mehar allegedly allowed his minor son to cast a vote at polling station number 71 in Berasia Tehsil and shared the clip online. Following this, an FIR was filed against him, and the entire polling team—including the Presiding Officer and other staff—was suspended for negligence. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

A reverse image search of key frames from the viral video led us to multiple media reports from May 2024 (here, here, and here) featuring the same visuals. The timeline in these reports confirms that the video predates the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections. According to these reports, the incident occurred in the Bhopal district, where a Zila Panchayat member allegedly allowed his minor son to cast a vote and then shared the video online. The individual was identified as Vinay Mehar, a Zila Panchayat member, who let his minor son vote at polling station number 71 in the Berasia Tehsil of Bhopal district. After the Bhopal Collector took cognisance of the matter, the SDM Berasia was directed to conduct an inquiry. Following this, an FIR was registered against Vinay Mehar at the Berasia police station, and the entire polling team was suspended for negligence.

Further, we did not find any credible reports of a minor casting a vote for the BJP in the 2025 Bihar elections.

To sum up, the video shows a 2024 incident from Bhopal where a Panchayat member let his minor son vote, and it has no link to the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections.
