A viral video (here, here, and here) on social media allegedly shows people of Delhi beating the Aam Aadmi Party leaders over freebies. The post’s description states that the people of Delhi have started to thrash AAP leaders for ignoring them and focusing on Muslim appeasement. This video is being shared in the run-up to the 2025 Delhi elections. We fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: Visuals show a recent incident of the Delhi public thrashing AAP leaders for Muslim appeasement and ignoring Hindus.
Fact: This is an old video from 2022. It shows AAP MLA Gulab Singh Yadav getting roughed up by his party workers during a party meeting. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the veracity of the viral claim, we searched the internet with relevant keywords. This search led us to news reports (here, here, and here) from November 2022 on this incident. These reports featured visuals similar to the viral video and described the incident as the Aam Aadmi Party workers beating AAP MLA from Matiala, Gulab Singh Yadav.
As per the reports, this incident occurred on 21 November 2022 during a party meeting held by Gulab Singh Yadav with his workers. Reportedly, an argument broke out between him and the workers over who could be the candidate for the Delhi civic polls. This eventually led to him getting beaten up by the workers.
BJP shared this video and alleged that AAP was selling party tickets for the MCD elections, which the Aam Aadmi Party denied. Refuting the claim (here, here, and here) made by the BJP, Gulab Singh Yadav insinuated that the attack was arranged by area BJP leaders.
Later, a case was registered (here and here) by the Delhi police based on a complaint lodged by Gulab Singh Yadav. All of this evidence makes it clear that the incident seen in the viral video occurred almost two years ago, during the 2022 MCD elections.
This also makes it evident that the claim that it shows a recent incident is false. Additionally, we also did another keyword search to check if any such incidents of people attacking the AAP leaders had occurred recently. However, we did not find any reports to support such a claim.
