2023 video of a fire accident at a railway station in West Bengal is being falsely shared as showing a recent incident from Delhi

On 10 November 2025, a car exploded near the Red Fort in Delhi, India, killing at least 10 people and injuring more than 20 others. In this context, a video showing a large fire erupting on a railway platform at a railway station — with people seen throwing objects onto the tracks — is being widely circulated on social media with the claim that it is from Delhi (here, here, here, here, and here). Through this article, let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: The video shows a fire incident that took place at a railway station in Delhi in November 2025.

Fact: The viral video dates back to April 2023 and shows a fire incident that occurred at Santoshpur Railway Station in West Bengal on 06 April 2023. There are no news reports of any such massive fire breaking out at any railway station in Delhi in November 2025. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

We conducted a relevant keyword search to determine whether any incident similar to the one depicted in the viral video had recently occurred at any railway station in Delhi. However, the search yielded no credible news reports confirming such an event. Given the severity of the claim, if such an incident had taken place, it would undoubtedly have received widespread media coverage.

To learn more about the viral video, we performed a Google reverse image search using keyframes extracted from it. This search led us to multiple reports (here, here, here, and here) from April 2023 that featured visuals identical to those seen in the viral clip. According to the descriptions in these reports, the video shows a fire incident that occurred at Santoshpur Railway Station in West Bengal on 06 April 2023.

Several additional reports on this incident can be found here and here. According to a Times of India report, a massive fire broke out at Santoshpur Railway Station in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district on 06 April 2023 at around 5.30 pm, when the station was crowded with passengers waiting for trains. No casualties were reported, although several small shops on the platform were destroyed in the blaze. This information clearly establishes that the incident took place in West Bengal, was not recent, and dates back to April 2023.

Earlier, Factly had published a fact-check article when the same video went viral in January 2024 with the false claim that it showed visuals of the Mira Road railway station following the 22 January 2024 tensions in Mira Road.

To sum up, the viral video depicting a massive fire at a railway station is from West Bengal, not Delhi, and it dates back to April 2023.
